The Airspace subdivision – Airspace division

It is easy to imagine that in the airspace around Athens, for example, there are many daily flights of passenger, commercial, military, training, etc. aircraft. So in a very small area we have a lot of air traffic. So in order to be able to ensure the safety of the flight of this large number of planes, this airspace is subject to regulations and is called Controlled Airspace. A controlled airspace is therefore an airspace of defined dimensions in which air traffic control (ATC) services, flight information and alerting are provided.

ICAO rates airspace from A to G according to its importance. Type A is the highest in the rating and is the controlled area with the heaviest traffic.

Types B, C, D and E refer to different types of controlled airspace.

Types F and G cover all uncontrolled airspace

NFZ – CTR – TMA

Let’s take a closer look at the subdivisions of Controlled Airspace.
