Terminal areas (TMAs),

Terminal Manoeuvring Area (TMA) is a controlled area, located at the confluence of runways and above the Control Transfer Zone (CTR) and in the vicinity of one or more major runways. The terminal area extends from 1500ft ~ 4500ft from the ground

There are of course areas in the Greek territory where air traffic is insignificant or very little. In these areas there is no need for the provision of Air Traffic Control services and only basic Flight Information Service (FIS) is provided. These areas are part of Uncontrolled Airspace.

No-fly zones – Restricted areas

There are many types of restrictions that prevent you from flying the way you want to. These include controlled airspace around airports, heliports (often near hospitals), national parks, nature reserves, prisons, protected areas, military areas, etc.

There are other areas where flying is prohibited or has specific restrictions.

No-fly areas for SFEs

In each National Airspace, there are areas which are prohibited or closed at regular intervals for various reasons (military exercises, weapons firing, environmentally protected areas, etc.).

The name of the area on aeronautical maps consists of 3 letters followed by numbers. In Greece these areas begin with the letters LG followed by one of the letters P, R, D, C and TRA.

These are:

P = Prohibited, i.e: Prohibited Area

R = Restricted, i.e: Restricted area.

D = Danger, i.e: A Dangerous Area is an airspace, of defined dimensions, within which conditions are likely to exist which present hazards to aircraft at defined intervals.

C = Controlled Firing Area, ie: Area in which we have controlled firing of weapons.

TRA = Temporary Reserved Airspace, i.e: Temporary Reserved Airspace.

You do not need permission to fly in Area D, but be aware that flying is your responsibility and you need to find out what activities take place in this area. An example of such activity is blasting in quarries.

In some places, such as military areas, there is also a ban on photography. As a remote pilot, you are required to be aware of these things and take them into consideration.

In special cases and upon request to the AAA, it is possible to allow UAS to fly in the airspace of restricted areas.
